Why Install A Gate?

A question that may come up is “Why install a gate?’ “Is it really worth it?”. Aside from some rare occasions, you’ll almost always want a fence. Without a gate, there’s really only two options. The first is that you can hop over the fence every time, and the other option is to just leave an opening. Neither of those are good options, its best to install a gate to keep security and allow for an easy in/out access. For commercial properties, it could be a gate that allows for large vehicles to get in and out. Regardless, its almost always the best decision to invest in a gate.

Best Practices For Gate Installation

Installing a fence gate can be done in 6 simple steps. Keep in mind that there are different techniques for the different types of gates. The first step will be laying everything out to make sure everything will fit properly. From there well dig and install the new posts. After the posts are installed we attach the hinges to the post and gate. Next, is to actually install the gate, at this point the gate is ready to go but we to add character and security well install gate locks and accessories.

Types Of Gates

Wood Gates:

Wood gates look amazing, sturdy, and can even be customized. But with all those benefits will come some negatives.

Pros: The biggest pro of a wood fence is how stunning they look. With the biggest options for customization a wooden fence is perfect for anyone. Another major benefit is that wood gates are great for security purposes making sure it’ll be a challenge for any unwelcomed visitors to get in

Cons: Although many benefits there are also some negatives. The biggest problem is the upkeep required for a wood fence, they require regular staining/painting every 1 to 2 years. Because wood is a natural material its susceptible to wear over time that may require maintence frequently.

Vinyl Gates:

A vinyl fence will offer many benefits as well as some negatives. Here are both the major pros and cons of a vinyl fence:

Pros: The biggest pro is that a vinyl fence will keep a new and fresh look for a very long time. Another benefit is a vinyl fence holds up well against rough weather. The final major pro of a vinyl fence is that they’re easy to clean and maintain, usually, a nice rain shower will do the work for you.

Cons: Although cleaning a vinyl fence is easy. A bright white vinyl fence will have a high chance of getting dirty often which requires more maintenance. Another negative is that although repairs won’t be needed often they will usually require professional and more expensive work than the other fences.

Chain Link Gates:

A chain-link gate has been around for a while and although they might not be as stunning as a raw wood gate, they still offer many benefits.

Pros: Out of all the gate options a chain link fence will likely be the most affordable. Another benefit of chain link gates is that they’re lightweight allowing for easier exit/entrance.

Cons: One of the biggest cons is that although secure, chain-like gates won’t be the prettiest out of the other options. Another huge negative is that they can be jumped over pretty easily (unless you go with a more expensive option) allowing for any intruders to quickly get into your yard.

Aluminum Gates:

Choosing an aluminum gate will bring both negatives and positives, but overall they’re a great option for just about everyone!

Pros: The best and most obvious advantage of an aluminum gate is their sheer strength, these gates are built to last! So if its weather or intruders an aluminum fence will stand the challenge. The next benefit is that they don’t rust or require a lot of maintenance. They come at a great price as well!

Cons: Although they’re affordable considering their benefits, unfortunately, they still come with a cost that’s greater than the other gates. The other negative is that they cant be customized as much as the other options, so it might not be the gate for you if you’d like to design your own gate.
